The name joulupukki literally means "Christmas goat" or "Yule Goat" in Finnish; the word pukki comes from the Teutonic root bock, which is a cognate of the English "buck", and means "billy-goat". An old Scandinavian custom, the figure is now being eventually conflated with Santa Claus. It is even more fitting that the company, K.A. Weiste Ltd, should have its head office and main factory in the Helsinki suburb of Pukinmäki (Goat Hill), since the Finnish name for Santa Claus is Joulupukki (literally: Christmas goat). Far away in northern Finland at the distant polar circle, lives Santa Claus, a warm-hearted and grey-bearded old fellow, together with Mrs Claus, the elves and the reindeer. This place is called “Lappi” in Finnish, or Lapland in English, and it is closely related to the Finnish Christmas tradition.
